Oreo Super Bowl power outage ad
During the Super Bowl last year, there as a power outage for a brief moment. Within minutes of the power outage starting however, Oreo posted an ad on their Twitter account:
The tweet saw over 15,000 retweets and over 6,000 favorites, reaching many thousands of people on Twitter within minutes. This Oreo Super Bowl power outage ad was an excellent example of adaptability of their marketing team: coming up with something within minutes after the power outage and publishing it that fast, wow. Twitter was the best vehicle of course, as that is the de facto platform nowadays for breaking news -and- responses to it.
Surely you’ll remember the moment back in 2009 when that famous tweet was sent out: “There’s a plane in the Hudson …“. Classic media like tv and radio were late to the game, and breaking news would never be the same.
